About ↗
Heart bypass surgery (CABG) recovery takes 6–12 weeks for most activities. The first days are spent in intensive care, and the most important ongoing commitments are cardiac rehabilitation and taking all prescribed medications. Most patients feel significantly better than before surgery by Month 2.
⚕️ This is friendly general guidance. Your surgeon's and medical team's specific instructions always take priority. If you are concerned about any symptom, contact your surgical team or call emergency services; do not rely on this guide alone.

In India? Research finds coronary artery disease striking Indians nearly a decade earlier than Western populations. See our India-specific guide for what Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) actually pays for cardiac procedures, and what to check before assuming coverage.

🫀 Cardiac rehabilitation: do not skip this
Cardiac rehabilitation is one of the most evidence-backed steps you can take after a cardiac procedure. It reduces the risk of another event, improves fitness, manages depression, and gives you supervised support to exercise safely.
Fewer than half of eligible patients attend. The most common reason: nobody told them clearly enough. If your cardiac rehab has not been arranged — ask your GP or cardiologist at your next appointment.
